Game Play

  • For B14 – 11 players per team on the field (11v11) including goalkeepers.
  • For G14 – 9 players per team on the field (9v9) including goalkeepers.
  • Teams rosters are built to be as balanced as possible so that games are as competitive and FUN as possible.
  • There should never be blowouts- coaches should work together with an eye towards keeping the game fun and competitive.  Where necessary in cases where games are one-sided- share players, stress passing, play gifted attackers in goal or on defense, etc.
  • Only AYSO-registered players and referees are allowed on the field.  Coaches should never be on the field or behind the goals.

Game Duration and Substitutions

  • The time listed on the Game Schedule is the start-time of the game kick-off.
  • Two 35-minute halves with a short “half-time” at stoppage between halves.
  • Coaches and referees should use their discretion to modify games into 4 quarters on especially hot days and/or if teams are short players and without subs.
  • Everyone Plays® means that every player plays at least half of every game.  Substitutions should be made with the purpose of striving to get players equal playing time.
  • To further ensure Everyone Plays, coaches and referees may also consider splitting the game into 4 Quarters for substitutions if both teams agree to it.
  • If a team makes a substitution on their own throw-in or corner kick, the opposing team may also make substitutions at that time

Fouls and Misconduct

  • Every effort should be made to keep the game moving and limit stoppages, distractions, and interruptions such as debate or disagreement about rules, calls, goals scored or not scored, etc.  Please let the kids play and enjoy the game of soccer!
  • Headers and punts are allowed.
  • Please review our Offside Page for more detailed information.

  • All Coaches and Referees should complete online training at AYSO-U including Safe Haven, CDC Concussion, Summary of the Laws of the Game, and the online Certification course that corresponds with the age you are coaching or refereeing.
